How Do I Remove the Scent from My Lava Bead Jewelry?

por Nicole Flamer

Fragrance lovers enjoy the natural and simple use of lava beads. It is so easy to just add your favorite essential oil or fragrance oil to the beads and enjoy the subtle emission of aroma throughout the day.

What happens when you want to change the scent? How do you remove the scent from the lava beads without damaging the bead?

Lava rocks, also known as basalt, are formed from volcanic molten lava that has hardened. They are porous, which makes them an excellent medium for holding and keeping your chosen scent.

You can clean your lava beads in one of two safe ways:

1.  Soap and Water Soak - for beads used with fragrance oils and perfume.

Take your lava bead jewelry and place it in a glass bowl that holds about 1/2 cup of hot water with a teaspoon of Dawn soap. Allow your beads to soak up to 2 hours. You can gently brush your beads with a toothbrush to remove any build-up. Remove the beads from the water and place them on a paper towel to dry.

2. Vinegar Spray - for beads used with essential oils.

Place equal parts of warm water and vinegar in a small cosmetic sprayer bottle. Shake to combine and heavily spray your jewelry, saturating it with the solution. Thoroughly rinse the piece with warm water and allow it to air dry on a paper towel.

Both methods should remove any lingering scent from your jewelry. Consider any other gems, or metal settings and how they may react in vinegar or water.
